A professor once had an office chair
Worn and wrinkled through wear and tear
It held me close like a vice
He gave me a little advice
He said ‘Before RSA, go cut your hair’

I remember a comparison made between your office and Professor Zappen’s office. He had neatly stacked papers across shelves, while yours, well… let’s just say yours had no stacks. His office was said to be more like Aristotle, while yours more akin to Derrida. So profound. It completely changed the trajectory of my studies. Seriously, I learned a lot from you – – not just about rhetorical theory but I also admired how you carried yourself as a teacher and scholar, and strive to emulate those qualities in professional life. Happy 80th Birthday!
