Bill

Once a student of Plato astute,
Thought knowledge a noble pursuit
But, too fond of chiasmus
He chanced on Erasmus
And went after the Sophistic loot!

Happy Birthday Michael!

I miss the chance to talk with you about the rhetorical dimensions of life – big and small – and especially the way we could talk about work and other things with no boundary between them. You helped me see, in a formative moment in my career, how to move about the world of the academy with grace, patience, and most of all kindness. And I have carried those lessons with me and tried to follow your example.

I hope you have a wonderful day that involves a few small indulgences, witty and enlightening conversation, and the company of good friends and loved ones!

Leslie, Lily, & I wish you all the best!!
